Former NFL Star Junior Seau Commits Suicide
Former all-star NFL linebacker Junior Seau was found dead today in his Oceanside, California home. The cause of death was a gunshot wound and the authorities suspecting his death as a suicide.
Police Chief Frank McCoy said Seau’s girlfriend called 911 at 9:45 am saying she found Seau’s body with a gunshot wound to the chest and a handgun nearby.
Junior’s mother broke down at a press conference held outside his home, crying out “Take me, take me, leave my son, but it’s too late.”
In 2010, Seau drove his vehicle off a cliff in Carlsbad, California just hours after he was released from jail because of a domestic violence arrest concerning his girlfriend. He told police he fell asleep at the wheel, and there was no evidence of alcohol or drugs being involved. Some suspected he was actually trying to commit suicide by driving off the cliff.
There have been several NFL players who have committed suicide possibly because of brain injuries suffered during their playing careers. I wonder if this is the case here.
It’s a very sad and tragic situation; our prayers go out to his family and his children.
